After Educare class, its convenor Sajid took me to the Harbour , first to the Thayampally side and then at Perumathura, looking for fisherman going for motor trawling, however due to the off-season every boat was anchored. Sajid shared his unforgettable experiences of fishing in motor boat and captured several pictures of me in the harbour and from a boat. Engaging conversations with female fish sellers and young fishermen, currently jobless due to the off-season, provided insightful perspectives.
Post-lunch, a visit to the beach near Puthukkurichy revealed vibrant scenes—children playing in football, men playing cards with hats crafted from coconut leaves, and a few individuals skillfully catching fish from catamaran boats amidst the waves. Taking a stroll through the coastal fringe housing colony, I unexpectedly stumbled upon a wedding celebration. The atmosphere was further enriched by the captivating tunes of Mappilappaattu (Mappila folk songs) to which I also vibed.
In the evening, Haris Ahsani came and took me to Adv. M A Hassan’s house to have one of the best interviews in my fellowship. The ensuing interview with Hassan sir, a respected senior figure in the village, serving multiple terms as a ward member. Hassan sir shared his diverse experiences in community development, efforts against social evils, and endeavours for communal harmony. The interaction felt like a timeless flow of wisdom, with recollections ranging from his involvement in bringing peace to Maaradu after communal tensions to leading peaceful Gandhian actions to close liquor shops in Perumathura. Additionally, he spoke about collective efforts for the construction of libraries, roads, and schools, painting a comprehensive picture of his impactful contributions to the community's well-being.
